A banner stand is an essential marketing tool with endless possibilities for sharing your message. An eye-catching banner can introduce your brand to potential new customers, or your school to prospective students. Use at trade shows, in stores, at school functions, or at any type of event where you want to be seen.
There are so many different sizes and styles of banner stands to choose from. From retractable aluminum stands to stands made of FSC Certified wood, illuminated banners to ones perfect for a tabletop; there’s a lot to consider when choosing the banner that’s right for you.
One thing that tends to come as a surprise to people when choosing a banner, however, is which substrate they would like their message printed on. Some of our most popular banner stands are offered on a variety of substrates, and it’s up to you to decide which one works best for your uses. But if you need some direction, read on.
What Substrates Are Available?
Vinyl: Vinyl has a glossy, sleek finish that can stand the test of time, even in the sunlight. It is the most popular choice amongst Post Up Stand customers thanks to its durability and classic look.
Dye Sublimated Polyester: Also referred to as ‘dye-sub’, this is a polyester fabric that is found on many of our tension fabric products such as backwalls or illuminated banners, but it is also available on our most popular banner stands. Dye-sub won’t have the same glossy sheen as a vinyl banners, but is loved for its long-lasting, vibrant colors.
Polyester Satin: If you’re looking for a more matte finish, polyester satin is the substrate for you. It’s a durable choice that can set you apart from the competition with its modern appearance.
Antimicrobial Disenfectex: This substrate is treated with HeiQ V-Block™ technology which uses silver and vesicle booster technology to achieve antimicrobial properties. Antimicrobial technology is added in the last stage of textile manufacturing to protect the fabric from degrading by microorganisms and to inhibit growth of bacterial odors. HeiQ V-Block™ treatment is 72% bio-based, making it safe and sustainable.
How do you know which substrate to use?
There are a few things to consider:
Where you’ll be displaying your banner: If you’re planning on being outdoors, vinyl is an excellent choice of substrate because it can withstand sunlight without fading. Vinyl might not be the best choice, however, for an event where you’re going to be under harsh lighting because the glare might make it hard to see your artwork. A matte polyester satin is an eye-catching alternative to vinyl that’s perfect for indoor events, as is dye sublimated polyester if you’re really looking to make an impact with your message.
How you’ll store and maintain it: Longevity should play a major role in your decision about which substrate is best for you. While all our substrate options are durable, some may hold up better than others depending on how you plan on storing and maintaining it. For example, vinyl banners can’t be cleaned with harsh cleaning products because it may fade its glossy surface. The best way to clean a vinyl banner is with mild detergent and water, which should be done before you put it away. It is not recommended to use soaps or detergents at all on a dye sublimated polyester banner because it may lead to the fading of its vibrant colors. Polyester satin doesn’t stand up to any cleaning very well because of its matte surface, while Antimicrobial Disenfectex is washable up to 30 uses while still keeping the antimicrobial properties effective. All banners should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Each banner substrate has advantages and disadvantages, and it’s up to you to evaluate your needs to determine which is best for you. But no matter which you choose, you’ll be left with a vibrant, eye-catching display that will help you share valuable information with your audience. The possibilities are endless - store openings, fundraisers, sales, wayfinding and so much more!
