POP displays, otherwise known as point-of-purchase displays, are used mainly by retail stores in many industries to draw on the purchasing impulses of the consumer.
While traditional display banners can be used for the same purposes, as the goal of all banner advertisements is to drive sales, there are some differences in both typical use and product type.
POP Banners:
- Can range from table banners to individual, portable merchandise displays
- Often utilized on ends of aisles (end caps), main walls and near registers
- With evolvement in display practices, can be utilized throughout stores as “popup stores”
- Often used to promote specific brands or products
- Use images and text that tries to strongly persuade consumers
- Signage and displays used in concentrated areas of stores to help with branding and targeting
- Floor and wall signs can be used as directional signage as part of POP displays
- Often at eye level for maximum consumer exposure
- Compact floor standing banners can also be used to draw attention to the display
- Meant to be compact to eliminate barriers to purchasing with quicker buying access
Display Banners:
- Banners and displays are displayed in several areas as opposed to concentrated in specific areas
- Can range from small or larger floor standing banners to hanging banners
- Overhead banners can be used to draw attention to specific items, brands and areas
- Backdrops and larger pop-up banners can be used as displays for sales and brand reinforcement
- Vinyl banners often make for effective hanging display banners
- Larger floor standing retractable banners can also be used for big or small display areas
- Can be more permanent advertising fixtures
